Food Industry Donations

Daily Bread distributes food that is both nutritional and diverse to its member agencies across the GTA. The majority of the millions of pounds we collect annually is donated by the food and consumer products industry. We have 107,000 square feet of warehouse space including an industrial size freezer and two industrial size refrigerators to properly store donated food until it gets to those in need.

Our wish list of needs from the food industry includes:

  • Rice
  • Dried pasta & tomato sauce
  • Baby formula & cereal
  • Canned meats & vegetables
  • Soups & stews
  • Peanut butter
  • Refrigerated items including milk and yogurt, fruits, vegetables and frozen goods, fresh bread and eggs

We also accept personal care and household products such as diapers and laundry detergent.

If you are part of the food and/or consumer products industry and you'd like to make a donation, click here.

What we accept
Donating to Daily Bread is safe, cost-effective, and can save you thousands of dollars as well as help save the environment from unnecessary landfill.

Here are some examples of what we can accept:

  1. Close to code: We can distribute within 24 hours or use immediately in our kitchen to prepare food for meal programs.
  2. Bulk ends and imperfections: We accept food that is still wholesome but not saleable due to wrong labeling, bulk ends, discontinued product lines and imperfections.
  3. Overstock and inadequate weight: Relieve inventory and clear storage space of outdated or promotional products.

You are not liable for any risk
Daily Bread will pick up your donated food. Products are handled, stored and shipped with care to ensure the integrity and safety of the product.

Donors are protected by the Good Samaritan Law (An Act Respecting the Donation of Food, Ontario 1994) by which donors who give food in good faith are absolved from any liability. Donors may also be assured that donated product will not be sold, bartered or traded, and only distributed to people in need.

A leader in the National Food Sharing System
Large donations are shared across Ontario and Canada. As part of the National Food Sharing System, which connects participating food banks across Canada, we are key players in helping to provide food to smaller communities that may be struggling with food donations. We are proud to say that we are the leaders in this community-building initiative.
