Volunteer Opportunities
There are several volunteer opportunities available at Daily Bread. Most of them involve sorting food and getting it ready to go to the people who need it. Volunteer roles include:- Food sorting: sorting food donations into different categories and palletizing them
- Order picking: preparing the weekly food orders for our member agencies
- Reclamation food sorting: sorting damaged product into special categories and palletizing
- Bulk food processing: re-packaging bulk food items like beans and rice
- Administrative work: data entry, mail preparation
Individual Volunteers
Individuals can get involved at Daily Bread by participating in activities like food sorting, advocacy and special events. From Public Food Sorting Days during our annual drives, to coming in when you have some extra time to dedicate to volunteering, many opportunities exist to help Daily Bread support its member agencies and clients.
Groups - Schools/Youth/Special Needs
Daily Bread is offering new and exciting hands-on educational workshops at our New Toronto Street location. Our workshops include a tour of the facilities and hit on a number of topics relating to food bank use and creating social change. Workshops assist youth and young adults in understanding causes of poverty and how they relate to our community. As part of these opportunities, a volunteering component can be added so that youth put new knowledge to action immediately.
All other groups of 4 or more
Corporate groups and other groups of adults often come in for volunteer experiences between Monday and Friday. These experiences provide great team building for colleagues and community members. We ask that all groups sign up for a three-hour shift either from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
